Being the bad boy in the classroom I of course have tried to play my Conn 26K Eb sousa without the bell. The bitch (or would that be pitch) would be around F or a bit sharper. I certainly liked the sound, which except for the "sandstorm-in-my-left-ear component was very focused.
Buy this one. Find out which pitch it has without the bell. Shorten the valve slides accordingly. And you have got the best Wieprecht replica available today.
It might take some engineering skills to make relevant stays for the leadpipe.
