let's face it, playing while marching is brutal. once a year, every year our community band plays in a parade at 10, then has a concert at noon. my chops are totally busted after the parade, even if i played my peashooter trombone with the 12C mouthpiece, then switched to euph. sometimes if i played bone, then switch to tuba for the concert, it's do-able.

my advice is sometimes you just can't worry about hitting every note. if you've played the march a few times, you should know where it's OK to stop and suck in a monstrously large breath.

also: the one time I tried to play my old brass King sousie, my back was hosed up for a week, and I swore to only use the band's tupperware tuba after that. 'course you might not have to worry about that until you're over 40 (like me).
