If your experience was good on a rotary then that's your choice as to the "best" valves. If your experiece was good on a piston then that's your choice as to the "best" valves.
Both of you are correct. There is no right answer here. Choose the horn that plays the best and learn to accept the valves.
From my perspective I've had both. Learning pistons after years with a rotary was excruciating, but the playing characteristics of the horn were worth the change. I have a rotary F and would gladly trade it in for a piston horn now having made the switch, but the piston F has to be substantially better than the rotary one I currently have.
You just have to remember that for some areas, there is no clear cut correct answer. Rotary? Piston? that's definitely one of those areas!!
