I, like everyone else, have played both and in the end I prefer rotary. Travel distance seems shorter, smoother and Not as noisy. Less maintenance with the rotary valves and more comfortable on the fingers, some old/worn pistons can be very tiring I have not encountered that with old rotary valves. Of course it's just my honest opinion, I currently play a piston Tuba.
