Hi Andy,
Good luck on your quests. I am also thinking of trying to cut a BBb horn to CC
but I am starting out with an older conn cornet first and then an old no-name baritone.I have an old 10 J tuba and an old Olds 0-99 that may become CC tubas.I do not think that a big 5/4 or 6/4 should be your first trial horn, but the 3 valve 20J Conn comes up for sale on a fairly regular basis on "yabE", and if you really wanted to try a big horn first, you might want to start with that.(I was inspired to try this after I had the G bugles in my Scout troop cut down to Bb, baritone and contra BBb) Keep us posted on your progress.
