Yet another suggestion would be to pick up a video recording that I have. It is on Sony Classical and it is the Chicago Symphony Orchestra with Sir Georg Solti in Japan. Solti talks about the piece and the differences between Mussorgsky's piano score and Ravel's orchestration. Along with this discussion, you get to hear excerpts from the piano score played by Solti, and bits of a rehearsal with the orchestra (20 minutes in total). After this, you get to watch and hear the best recording I know of this work. I think it is also available on laserdisc, so I would guess it would be available on DVD now, too. DEFINITELY check this out.
