The soundtrack has only a few of the cues I heard. I played on one of the sessions and none of those cues made it on the soundtrack (imagine my disappointment!). The overall mix did not take advantage of the incredible sound that the brass section produced (8 horns, 3 trumpets, 4 trombones, 5 tubas and a euphonium). The lows didn't come through at all in the movie nor the soundtrack, which was also disappointing because most of the low parts were in the pedal D down to A (last note of the piano) range. I was really looking forward to hearing that. Oh well.

You're right about the soundtrack being very Zimmerish, particularly like his scores to Gladiator and Crimson Tide. This seems to be his characteristic sound, which I love, because he employs L.A. musicians including 5 tuba players! I'm sure everyone in L.A. appreciates that!
