Remember, the repiratory system is used for things other than breathing. The valsalva allows repiratory musculature into a downward movement for defication and childbirth. It can be triggered by blowing with to much air pressure such as described by Erb in the Legacy of a Master book. The closure is in the throat, not the tongue.
