I bought my $6200 horn this way, from an individual. Money order ahead of time....it was a nervous situation for me, because of the possibility of being ripped off, but I talked to her on the phone a couple of times before sending the money. As it turned out, I was happy with the horn and we didn't have to go through the sending it back process.
As a seller, if someone is not willing to give you money up front, they are possibly just trying to get a free play test, which they could do through a store if that's what they want.
