I owned a Cerveny 601-5MR CC. Like you, I found it to be an "earth-mover". That sucker had an unbelieveable tone (dark, resonant), and could remain clear and stable even when you cranked it very hard. Unlike your experience, however, I found the intonation very good, and was able to get whisper quiet dynamics out of it. That puppy is a 6/4 horn if I've ever seen one. In view of its large size and bore, its dynamic range is very impressive. I had no problems using that horn in large orchestras or in quintets.

I have not played the Yamahas, so am unable to contrast the two instruments.
