The Yamaha is a fairly average 4/4 horn. They seem to be widely variable in quality, and the tone is o.k.,but nothing to write home about. I recently borrowed one while I was working to get back in shape, and I didn't like it enought to buy one.

The Ceverny is a big 5/4 or small 6/4 horn. The metal is a bit thinner than the Yamaha, but it's resonant. I recently bought the CC version, and it's a fairly good horn. It has a huge tone, and I can play it loud or whisper quiet. Its intonation is not great, but is controllable.

If you're going for new horns in that price range, you owe it to yourself to check out the Meinl-Weston model 25 ($3750 (AT) Baltimore Brass without case). It's a heck of a fine instrument, durable, with a big, clear, meaty tone, great valves, and has a huge dynamic range.
