I've never had problems with support either. I've been known for having a big sound since I first began playing the tuba. My problem was never with getting enough air through the horn, it was always with using too much tongue in conjunction with the air. When I started trying to clean up my tonguing, I used less tongue and less air with the tongue. My attacks were less abrupt, but inconsistent and usually messy. As I have been working on this, I've been finding that the more air I use the better the attack is. I have had to force myself to use more air than I think I need to. Even with that, I find that I rarely over-support an attack.
