You are correct about the move away from top action horns, but remember, the 2XJ series included the 22J (3valves front action, recording bell), 23J (3 valves, front action upright bell), 26J? (4 valves front action, recording bell) and 27J? (4 valves, front action, upright bell). These horns were not much seen, certainaly not after WWII, but the design work was there. In fact, if UMI wanted to reintroduce the 2XJ line, they might well consider doing it with the front action versions.

However, the big problem is that apparently the mandrels for the 2XJ series no longer exist. It is believed they were simply thrown away by Macmillan when the moved production to Texas in 1969 or so.
