I was having the same problems but going from bass trombone to tuba. All of the tuba mouthpieces I tried had very wide rims compared to the thin large bass bone mouthpieces out there. I used the contra bass bone mouthpiece set-up on tuba for a year(118 /P cup and 124 /P cup) but I was never very happy with the tone on a contra-bass tuba(CC). I got the 128G 4n rim which allowed me to switch between horns at will with little adjustment needed. I use the 116G/M cup/M9 backbore for bass trombone and 116G/L cup/L backbore for euphonium.
