I played a new one at the factory in Mainz in 1962, using a Fred Geib mouthpiece. Low register was nice, but second line F was so flat it was closer to E. The mouthpiece that they suggested at the factory was very shallow, like a scaled-up trumpet mouthpiece, which gave it a very coarse, blatty sound in my opinion.
