I am not sure I have had the same experiences as the other posters. Getting excited and having a flow of adrenaline is necessary to get real excitement out of a performance. When I was younger, beta blockers were not available. Perhaps more of my friends and I would have used them.

The main thing I have found in 30 years of professional playing is to relax and just have a good time. I get very nervous when I think about the audience, at my own church or at a paid job. I got over that when I started playing for MYSELF. The audience has to be secondary to what you are doing. Make good sounds for yourself and have fun.

As the saying goes, TRY IT, YOU MIGHT LIKE IT!

Good luck.
