I agree that the taper(s) of the tubing and locations of bends all affect intonation. I've known designers who would re-wrap a prototype to improve intonation.
I'm wondering how the acid gets rid of only the brass and not the lead. It's been a while since high school chemistry (not counting a college semester wayyyy back when). Do sulfuric & nitric acids only affect the metals in brass? Are there ever problems with the solder used to construct the instrument?
