Joe,
Well-stated. The Sabourin arrangement of Debussy's "Girl with the Flaxen Hair", in particular, sounds wonderful with cornet, fluegelhorn, horn, a smaller trombone, and bass trombone. I performed this work with this instrumentation at the Keystone Brass Convention in 1989, and one of our judges, Harvey Phillips, kept on praising the versatility of the group, particularly the tubist doubling on bass trombone. Doubling on bass trombone is a great way to enhance your quintet and your overall marketability.
