I'd like to see some kind of plastic valves. I believe the thermal expansion problem could be solved by clever choices of material. In the case of rotary valves I believe the bearings would have to be metal, but the body of the rotor could be plastic. Walter Sear claimed that he had plastic pistons all figured out, but could not sell the idea to any manufacturer because the public perceived plastics as being cheap. But now everybody is using nylon valve guides in spite of the fact that they wear out quickly and it's hard to replacements for them.
