From my experience the "d" attack takes the articulation out of the sound. This helps your sound sound more instantaneous, unlike a "t" syllable, which lets us know something is coming. It helps our notes sound more like this: [----] than this: <---->. Basically providing for more sound and color during the duration of the note.
