We don't need to know circumstances surrounding a "crash & burn" rendition of any music in any performance. We shouldn't even feel the need to ask, really. A performance should always be the best possible presentation of music as the performers are capable of doing.
I've even heard a tubist miscount the big low brass hit in Holst's Uranus, and I don't care why he screwed it up -- only that he did.
