I’m no expert on the York tubas. My observations are based on one hour in a practice room and in my masterclass. The low register on the York tuba(s) is very good. The fifth valve slide, however, is short and the way it is situated on the tuba makes it impossible to add any length to it. The fifth valve on York #2 is like a first valve. Low f is very sharp with the 4,5 combination. I added tubing to my Yamaha fifth valve to play like the Mirafone (2,3) fifth valve set up. It’s just my personal preference.
