I know the story... when I was desperate for cash and getting ready to move across the country, I had to sell my VMI tuba... Vince was the closest to me at the time, so I gave him a call... well, he basically offered me an even trade for a St. Pete! Told me stories about how awful my horn *actually* was, and how much better the St. Pete was... well, what he didn't know is that I'd played a St. Pete for about 2 years before getting my VMI horn.

I also consulted both David Fedderly and Mike Russo, both of whom were very up front(and much more honest). Fortunately for me, South Bend was just barely 2 hours out of my way on my 30 hour trek across the country. I was able to work out a trade with Mike that got me a tuba that'd keep my lips in shape until I could afford a new one again, and about a grand in cash to help me settle into my new town.
