King was a top quality instrument builder in the 20's and 30's. They did a fair amount of custom instrument building for professionals, some of which ended up in the production line (like the Bell rotary tubas), some didn't (like Bell's funky double tuba/euphonium). There was a King 3valve piccolo trumpet Bb/A made in the 30's on e-bay some months ago, most curious. [While almost all piccolo trumpets now have 4 valves, a Walter Sear innovation per a conversation I had with him at the NY Brass Conference this year, until the '70s they were all 3 valve].
