While Boosey ended up owning the York name through it's Carl Fischer company, I really doubt if anyone there really knows it. You are probably refering to the large bell that was put on the E flat tuba originally by John Fletcher. I really doubt that this had anything to do with Besson's relationship with Boosey and/or York, it was because Fletch just did it. Besides, it is the same bell they had been using on a BB flat. The E flat is a great horn - I own one!

As to the original question, the York company of Grand Rapids, Michigan was in existance from around the turn of the century to about World War II. After the war they produced student line instruments before folding in the 70's.
