It's the "making it great" part that's tricky.

I've heard orchestra pros, and some of the best orchestral tuba players in the world, have problems with the Bydlo in actual concert conditions where there is no backspace key. And that on F tubas of a type known for their superior upper register. Sure, the greats played it on big horns and made it work, but it ain't easy or I wouldn't have heard those fracked notes.

If the opportunity ever came my way (a laughable, but non-zero, possibility), I'd use a euphonium in a heartbeat, because that's the only instrument on which I'd have a chance of "making it great."

But I'd call it a tenor tuba to avoid misunderstandings with people hung up on the terminology of the instruments without connecting that terminology to real instruments.
