Never finding the final answer probably is why they say this thing about the way being the goal...
As for vowels in playing: I took a couple of singing lessons just recently to get better control over my oral cavity. The teacher finally was happy with my singing sound when we had ended on a sound somewhere between "oooh" and "eeeh", having the lip position of "oooh" with the Tongue position of "eeeh". weird thing, but it works, improved my sound both on f and BBb tubas tremendously.
