In reference to Ron Nelson and you're being so surprised at our dropping an octave. The USAF Band has had a very positive and warm relationship with Ron Nelson for many years. He is the consummate gentleman. We felt comfortable (in his presence) with experimenting with the octaves. When a brand new piece is being read for the first time in which the USAF Band commissioned, we have the unique opportunity to discuss numerous minor details of what the composer is looking for. Some composers are open to suggestions, others are quite adament about what they have written. The common denominator throughout this thread has been discretion. Interesting discussions.
