I agree with everything you have said! I think however, that the method of using two bass instruments playing intervals is a much more effective way to get the lowest notes to be imagined by the human brain. The frequency obtained is the difference of the frequencies of the notes played. These notes cannot be measured on an oscilloscope because the human ear constructs them due to its nonlinear response.

Anyone who wants to experience difference tones can get them playing duets with another instrument. Walter Sear and Alec Wilder duets make good use of them.
