Check out the Wheaton Municipal Band. They perform about ten weekly concerts, with one rehearsal each, at a permanent bandshell. There is always a "heavy" or two on the program, and the HUGE, enthusiastic audience won't go home till they get their march for an encore. It is a lot of fun. Auditions are usually at the end of May.
