I have a Conn Helleburg and a Conn Helleburg 7b mouthpiece which I had gold plated. After a mere 18 years ago. The plating is starting to bubble and peel off. My local instrument guy says the old plating has to be buffed off before they can be replated, but I am afraid that may remove too much metal and change them in ways I may not like. I could, of course just replace them, but they have served me very well, and like a favorite shirt or chair I am reluctant to part with them if they can be salvaged.
What to do, what to do?
