Playing the tuba for me is much more than playing loud all of the time. The role of the tuba in the orchestra is to be a part of the whole group not to be a solo instrument. Unfortunately it seems that a lot more people think the opposite way. Again, if you put the right input into the horn you'll get the results you want, loud or soft.
