It's just a matter of the perceived weakness of the little finger. Some might say it is easier to play that fourth valve with the index finger of the other hand. Being one who grew up on a 4 valve horn(all right hand), I had a bit of a coordination problem when I first bought a Besson 981 compensating. Either way, diligent practice will correct the coordination or strengthen the pinky, whichever may apply. And of course we are all aware of the new front action Besson Eb and BBb. These horns are aimed strictly at an American market. Are there any British brass bands out there who have made these new models a new addition to their artillery? I would be curious to know if any have switched.
