The Besson horns do produce a nice, dark sound. They also tend to have a good pitch center, especially the compensating horns that I have played. I owned a 186-5U, but in CC, and my experience was the the CC played better than the BB-flats. While the Besson was good for band and projected nicely, I felt that the Mirafone was better suited for small ensemble and solo work. The layout of the Mirafone was also much better in being able to access the valve slides for note adjustments also.
