I recently compared the rotary Neptune to my Rudy Meinl 5/4. I had even purchaced the Neptune. I liked the sound of it a lot, but when I used them side by side in my orchestra the projection on the Rudy was better and it had a lot fewer pitch hassles than the Neptune. I did pass the Neptune on to one of my students who is very happy with it. I also tried the piston Neptune and didn't like it nearly as well as the rotary horn.
Another horn to consider is the PT-6. I played on a friend's at a recording session this week and found it much to my liking. It is not as large but seems to put out plenty of very beautiful sound.
