Hey, Pete! The horn just went fully playable. The sound is wonderful; dark, resonant, and when it needs to be, powerful. We still need to trim a little off the main to bring it up to a workable pull length. Some background on the horn: 1911 Conn 15J 3 piston upright BBb, Meinl Weston 2165 4 piston 1 rotor valve section (this was made in BBb and we trimmed that too), various Conn parts from other tubas and Sousas. The most difficult part of this project was routing the main. Once we expanded and fitted the last tubes, it all worked out. We were having a dificult time locating brass for the main that was one inch in diameter. I was walking in the plumbing section of the Home Depot and found a toilet tank filler tube that was the right size. After a little tweaking it was soldered into place. New meaning to playing the plumbing. This has been a great learning experience and the horn has turned out well.
