Others might well have a better suggestion, but you might try a little exercise where your lips are sealed shut, you are TRYING to blow air out your MOUTH (but lips will not allow it), and concentrate on no air going up and out through the nose. This might be a way to work on fixing this while not having to worry about playing the tuba at the same time (????).
