Dear Ugas: The quintet can't be solved with a single horn. The large bore F is probably the best compromise. It has more facility in the upper reg's than a small CC, but lacks the authority of the CC in the lower reg's. The music your quintet plays will have much to do with your decision, especially if you are spending a lot of time with 3rd. trombone parts. The Eb horn should be considered as a middle ground. I personally use a large bore F for quintet, using the very fine low pedal tones occasionally. I notice that my German colleagues typically bring a large bore BBb and a medium bore F to their performances. Hope this narrows you down. H. Critchley
