I had the same initial reaction as you (just not as well worded). I think the design, even when everything is working perfectly, just requires a bit of finesse for the 4th valve. But now, after reading some of his responses, I'm not so sure that what he's experiencing is normal.

He describes not being able to get the horn to shout, and that he can't get substantial volume or punch on the low E, for example. He says this is the case even though he's tried backing off, various air flow exercises, etc. He sounds like he has a pretty good understanding of what he should be doing with his air flow. With a little expirimentation, he should get comfortable with it pretty fast. Since it's not happening, I can't help but wonder if something else is at work. Can't get volume or punch on THE RIDE??? Doesn't sound like a properly functioning 345 to me.
