For future ease of finding material to use and less time on your part, see if your transposing friends could learn how to read from the treble clef concert part. Most books are available in that configuratin. Learning by ear is probably as good or better. Start with the easier tunes(Saints, Bill Bailey)and go from there. It's just good basic music theory in practice that will be useful for a lifetime.
