... and the scratch is the only thing preventing functioning and if the scratch doesn't line up with the ports you might just very discretely brasso down the raised edges of the scratch and see how it works. Assuming you're not jamming the thing in in such a way as to damage the casing (in which case it really is time to send for the professional cavalry) the worst that'll happen is that it'll leak and you'll have to send it for replating as outlined above.
