This is all very confusing for me. I play both EEb and BBb tubas but am still in a state of confusion when I think of all the trouble I had 35 years ago while I was stationed in Scotland and playing in brass bands. Simplified, since I was an EEb player, could I have played a BBb tuba... pretending the treble clef was bass clef and adding three flats to normal EEb fingerings? I think I've got a handle on this but I'm trying to understand why it was such a problem for me back then. I'm thinking maybe all they had was EEb horns... forcing me to transpose instead of re-learning.
