...of a smaller horn is good for show work as well. The last thing that most of the show conductors want to hear is a big, pillowy, undefined, large tuba sound. The Weril, Yamaha 621 in any key, Conn 2J/4J are good examples of horns that you can "honk" on without overpowering the band. Also, space is often an issue, so a giant BBb can be unwieldy to switch to in just a couple or three bars. The size of the smaller tubas can be deceptive, however. I once brought a 621 F in to play Damn Yankees on Broadway, and the percussionist looked at it and exclaimed in his loud Brooklyn accent, "What the hell is that..a BARITONE HORN?"
