Well, here's my 2 cents on cutting horns and CC vs. BBb.
You may have noticed by my past posts that I have owned quite a few vintage horns.
I've also owned a few great cut instruments. I currently own a Dillon cut 4/4 York CC that that I love. Now I have found a 1919 6/4 BBb top action York in relatively great shape and have been debating to cut or not to cut. Well, I've decided to not cut it. When you cut a horn there's always a certain amount of risk that you run. This horn plays so beautifully,I would not want to run the risk of affecting the intonation. If a horn plays in tune, with a great response and beautiful tone, why cut? I think if a horn can be improved, such as the Monster Ebs and Holton 6/4 tubas that may not not have the greatest intonation to begin with, it's a good idea to cut. If you've ever played the York or Martin 6/4 BBb Tubas, you'll know what I'm talking about!
