Indeed, the clarinet bell has little to do with its resonance series. Only when all of the keys are closed does the bell of a clarinet really affect the basic resonance. For other notes with some or many of the keys open, the bell of the clarinet mainly affects the color of the sound, contributing to the "formant" part of its sound.

Ah yes; how do you get two piccolo players to play in tune...
