Most instrument guys will give you a note for insurance purposes for list price. This helps alleviate some negotiation issues with the insurance company. Also, if that were to happen, and we hope it doesn't, it helps to give you a little more money to play with and a little more money to spend, hopefully at the same shop that you bought at before. It also helps to cover for inflation years down the road.
With all that being said, insurance companies in this day and age will make you purchase the replacement horn and only value up to what the previous appraisal was, but a list price appraisal hopefully helps you out there too.
