The european nylon valve guides can be used, after the pistons have been re-tapped for the proper thread size.
I have used just about every silver cleaning polish and preparation made, and I like Tarni-Shield the best. It is the least abrasive, works well, smells reasonably good, and gives great protection against tarnish. I'd suggest using a soft cloth, and an old toothbrush or similar to get the residue from around braces, etc. Someone suggested that the residue will eventually eat away at the solder joints, but that is not the case. If you give a silver-plated instrument a thorough cleaning, there is usually much less polishing necessary.
