Of my tubas: 1915 3 valve BBb 6/4 York (does not need 4th for intonation)1900 5/4 4 rotor BBb Cervany and cc 186 5U mirafone - these three horns have near perfect intonation. . . I MEAN real close - full range. These horns don't require strange fingerings in any register have great high range slots. My two other "modern" horns that I consider to be my main instruments don't even come close to these vintage instruments in the intonation department. Ask any sales person why these vintage horns are not being used as production models and see if you can get an educated anwser. I hear the Wilson tubas have good intonation. Looking forward to reading about any newer piston valve 4/4 CC tubas with above average intonation. It's pitiful when you play for people and they ask "what ya doin' movin all those slides around. Starting to wonder if a 10,000.00 slide tuba is worth it.
