Never heard that story before, though I did know they were sold out of Simi or Sun Valley, I wonder how one could tell the difference? Mine was acrylic lacquered, and in build appearance no different from any other new Miraphone/Mirafone. Maybe the guys in Germany could provide the serial number range for California-built ones?? Anyways, if Yerkes had someone like Rob Stewart assemble my horn and then Tommy J. played it and referred it to Tony who then sold it to me, then I lucked out. ;^}

Oh a side note for the bicycle fans out there, there WAS a similar venture where Masi bicycles were built in Carlsbad CA, today these Confente or Baylis-built bikes command more money on the collector market than the Italian ones!
