Seriously:

Just GRIND off the rivet and the little brass washer. Twist and pull the hollow brass tubing universal "T" joint linkage right off of the steel rod and throw it in the empty paint bucket on the floor.

Put the remainder of the steel pin in a vice and spin the spatula around and around counter-clockwise until it's unscrewed and off. Through that in the empty paint bucket too. The hole is almost exactly threaded to 4-40 already when you're done, and will only need to be "chased" with a tap.
